Fallout 3 Is teh Awesome!

Got the deluxe lunchbox edition of Fallout 3 on Tuesday. I am so far enjoying it immensely. The folks at Bethesda seem to have really captured the flavor of the original Fallout games (which were created by the now defunct Black Isle Studios). The VATS targeting system lets you target specific limbs during combat. If you get a critical hit (or enough critical hits) you can kill your enemies in a really spectacular fashion. You play (insert player name here), who is in search of his father (voiced by Liam Neeson), who left the safety of the Vault to go out in the post-apocalyptic world surrounding Washington DC. The wasteland is really well done and the voice acting is noticeably better than than Oblivion, Bethesda's last game. And best of all, Vault Boy is back! I foresee many long hours of fun in the wastes.

What's Chris Been Up To?

Well, I've gotten back from Mexico. Mexico was fun. It was hot and humid during the day and most of the evenings we had thunderstorms. We saw a little bit of Puerto Vallarta, did some snorkeling, and went on zip lines through the jungle canopy. I also did a hike to waterfall on the snorkeling trip. There was also lots of lounging around the pool and getting pool drinks. Overall, it was a pretty relaxing trip.

Once we got back Noelle spent a lot of time getting ready for Pumpkin Party. We had about 20-30 people show up and carve and eat and socialize. My jack o' lantern was kind of a failure, but I had a good time nonetheless. :-)

I voted. There were a dozen or more propositions this time. My favorite was the one where I was asked to approve the results of a report that has not been published yet. Wait, what?

At work I got reorged into a new division at the company. So far, it seems like more of the same, only with different managers and management processes. On the bright side, I haven't been laid off, which is good, because while I was out of the country, the health of the economy has gone from colicky to having consumption.

Going to see Chris Cornell tonight. Should be fun.

Andale, Andale

Finally finished packing for my flight to Nuevo Vallarta tomorrow morning. Noelle, Aki, Rachel, Dan, Wendy, and I are going down to spend a week at my Mexican timeshare. I haven't been to this particular resort, so I hope it'll be good.

It should be good just to get away from work for a while. I've been doing some prototyping work that has had me back at the office working sort of longish hours. Definitely longer than the past few months. I'm looking forward to looking for mommy turtles laying eggs in the surf, snorkeling, drinks in the pool. Maybe a Mayan ruin, if they have one nearby.

That Smell...

Earlier tonight I heard a gentle pitter patter on the roof, so I dragged Noelle out into the back yard. It was the first rain of the season! I realized I've missed that smell of rain on asphalt so very much. I just stood in the back yard in the mist. It was glorious.
