Diary of the Dead

Went out to see the new George Romero zombie flick Sunday. I was pleasantly surprised in that it was much better than his last effort: Land of the Dead. This movie is kind of a reset of the Foo of the Dead cycle in that the zombie apocalypse starts in modern times instead of the 60s. This movie concerns a bunch of college students who are working on a student film when the apocalypse starts and one of them decides that it's really important to make a film to document the zombie attacks. Besides the obvious zombie versus the living fun, the movie's also a commentary on how people feel compelled to document things and blog all the time about everything from the most mundane activities (mmm, the irony) to the most horrible events . The social message is not as subtle as his earlier movies, i.e. they come right out and say it. Repeatedly. Still, I thought it worked pretty well.
