Mexico To Decriminalize Drug Possession?

Legislation about to be signed by Mexican President Vincente Fox essentially decriminalizes possession of small amounts of drugs. The intent is evidently to allow law enforcement to spend more time going after drug dealers.

"Under the law, people could possess 5 grams of opium, 25 milligrams of heroin, 500 milligrams of cocaine, 100 milligrams of amphetamines, 200 milligrams of methamphetamines, 0.015 milligrams of LSD and 5 grams of marijuana without facing legal sanction." Five grams??? You can have an eight ball and not get busted? This is clearly designed to attract more tourists. :-)

More details in this article.
